Your body needs zinc to make T-cells, a type of white blood cell that fights off foreign invaders in your bloodstream. Having low levels of zinc may leave you more susceptible to pneumonia or other infections. Zinc is a common treatment for the common cold. While it most likely does not cure colds, it can help relieve symptoms by reducing inflammation in the nasal cavity. Additionally, zinc aids in wound healing by maintaining skin and mucous membranes, possibly preventing your risk of chronic leg ulcers.
Zinc is Important to your body in many ways:
For immunity, cell growth and division, sleep, mood, your senses of taste and smell, eye and skin health, insulin regulation, and male sexual function.
Zinc deficiency is associated with increased colds and flu, chronic fatigue, depression, acne, low birth weight babies, learning problems and poor school performance in children, among others.
In a study shown at the Experimental Biology conference in San Diego, researchers showed that adolescents given 20 mg of zinc per day showed greater memory, recognition of words, faster visual memory and attention skills than those who received no zinc supplements.
Many are deficient in zinc due to mineral-depleted soils, drug effects, plant-based diets, and other diets high in grain.

Foods highest in zinc are oysters, meat, poultry, nuts and seeds, and unsweetened chocolate (cacao).
Important Microwave Study
It has been known for some years that the problem with microwaved anything is not the radiation people used to worry about, it's how it corrupts the DNA in the food so the body can not recognize it.
Microwaves don't work different ways on different substances. Whatever you put into the microwave suffers the same destructive process. Microwaves agitate the molecules to move faster and faster. This movement causes friction which denatures the original make-up of the substance. It results in destroyed vitamins, minerals, proteins and generates the new stuff called radiolytic compounds, things that are not found in nature.
So the body wraps it in fat cells to protect itself from the dead food or it eliminates it fast. Think of all the Mothers heating up milk in these 'Safe' appliances. What about the nurse in Canada that warmed up blood for a transfusion patient and accidentally killed him when the blood went in dead. But the makers say it's safe. But proof is in the pictures of living plants dying!!!
Ten Reasons to dispose of your Microwave Oven
From the conclusions of the Swiss, Russian and German scientific clinical studies, we can no longer ignore the microwave oven sitting in our kitchens. Based on this research, one can conclude this article with the following:
1). Continually eating food processed from a microwave oven causes long term - permanent - brain damage by 'shorting out' electrical impulses in the brain [de-polarizing or de-magnetizing the brain tissue].

2). The human body cannot metabolize [break down] the unknown by-products created in microwaved food.

3). Male and female hormone production is shut down and/or altered by continually eating microwaved foods.

4). The effects of microwaved food by-products are residual [long term, permanent] within the human body.

5). Minerals, vitamins, and nutrients of all microwaved food is reduced or altered so that the human body gets little or no benefit, or the human body absorbs altered compounds that cannot be broken down.

6). The minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free radicals when cooked in microwave ovens.

7). Microwaved foods cause stomach and intestinal cancerous growths [tumors]. This may explain the rapidly increased rate of colon cancer in UK and America .

8). The prolonged eating of microwaved foods causes cancerous cells to increase in human blood.

9). Continual ingestion of microwaved food causes immune system deficiencies through lymph gland and blood serum alterations.

10). Eating microwaved food causes loss of memory, concentration, emotional instability, and a decrease of intelligence.

25 everyday uses for Essential Oils
1.  Got hiccups?  Dab some peppermint on the back of your neck, a little on each side of the spinal cord.

2.  Runny nose?  Swipe a drop of lemon down each side of the nose to dry it up.

3.  Can't focus?  Combine peppermint and orange, apply to the back of the neck, next inhale the oil left on your hands.

4.  Itchy, irritated eyes?  Dab lavender on the facial bones surrounding your eyes (careful to keep oil away from eyes).  If applying to children, make sure they don't rub their eyes until oil is absorbed.

5.  Allergies?  Mix up equal parts of lavender, lemon and peppermint ~ nature's antibiotic!  Apply to bottom's of feet morning and night.  Diffuse if possible.

6.  Ear Ache/Infection?  Combine 2 drops basil or tea tree with a some carrier oil such as coconut or olive oil and rub around the rim of ear, behind ear and just inside.  Apply several times a day.  Never drop essential oils into the ear canal.

7.  Trouble breathing?  Due to congestion or asthma?  Apply Respiratory Sinus Relief blend on chest, then cup one hand against palm with residual Respiratory Sinus Relief oil on it ~ creating an "inhaler" ~ and inhale the vapors from palm into chest for quick relief.

8.  Bad breath?  A drop of peppermint and you're fresh again!

9.  To freshen laundry?  Add a few drops of lavender or lemon oil, onto a clean rag and toss into the dryer with wet laundry.

10.  Smelly carpet?  Add 10 drops of a mix of these oils; eucalyptus, lemon, tea tree, peppermint, orange, and cloves to a box of baking soda or cornstarch, mix well and let sit for a day.  Sprinkle on carpet, let sit for an hour and vacuum the stink away!

11.  Athlete's foot?  tea tree works wonders!  Apply directly to affected areas.

12.  Toe fungus?  tea tree or Manuka which is 10 times more effective than tea tree you could also use oregano.  Use directly, dab affected toe with saturated q-tip applying to the surface of toenail morning and night.

13.  Unsightly warts or skin tags?  Apply morning and night.  If using Oregano, use a Qtip to dab one drop of on affected area...this will give you good control of application.  Oregano is a hot oil so you won't want to spread it around.  Skin tags fall off quickly with Oregano, you'll be impressed!  Wart removal can take several weeks depending on how large it is underneath the skin. Moles: tea tree, melissa, lavender, and thuja in sesame oil. Genital warts: thuja, tea tree, and lemon in sesame oil.

For kids with warts:   Lavender or lemon works wonderfully too!  Apply morning and night and don't cover with a bandaid, it's important to let the area breathe.  Also, it's convenient to put the EO in a roll-on bottle so kids can apply themselves...they like taking charge :) Raw potatoes rubbed onto the wart and in a few weeks you'll notice that it is gone!

14.  Cellulite Woes?  Pour a bottle of grapefruit into a bottle of fractionated coconut oil and rub into problem areas after shower or bath.  You'll smell great and your skin will be so soft!

15.  Diaper Rash?  Mix up some Diaper Spray.  18 oz water, 4 drops tea tree, 4 drops lavender.  (great diaper rash preventative too!)

16.  Sanitizing Wipes:  Make your own, by adding lemon and lavender to a stack of Bounty half sheets.  Mix 1/2 C. very warm water, 1 T. fractionated coconut oil, 6 drops lemon, 6 drops lavender, let coconut oil melt, stir and pour over paper towels. These are awesome!

17.  Dogs w/ Fleas?  Drip a couple drops of tea tree on back of collar.  Or, tie a bandanna with a few drops of tea tree around your dogs neck and watch fleas flee!

18.  Dog's w/ Ear Infection?  Couple of drops of tea tree and carrier oil on a cotton ball, wipe inside of ear not down ear canal. Several times a day.

19.  Dog w/ Sunburned Nose?  Dab a little lavender with carrier oil on his snout.

20.  Muscle Ache?  1 part No-MoPain blend with 4 parts fractionated coconut oil as a penetrating, pain relieving massage oil.

21.  Healthy candle scent?  Add a few drops of your favorite oil to the melted wax of a burning candle for a better scent.

22.  Mice?  Place cotton balls with peppermint in problem areas

23.  Fever?  A few drops of peppermint mixed with a carrier oil and applied to the torso can drop body temp 3 degrees in minutes!

24.  Burns?  A drop of lavender or lemon will immediately stop the pain and tissue damage.

25.  Heartburn?  A couple drops of peppermint in a small glass of milk will knock out the heartburn.

Sore Throat Help!!!
Home Remedies

If you feel down the outside of your throat when it is sore, you will probably notice some hard lumps in your throat area that are tender to the touch. These are swollen lymph nodes. The lymph nodes are swollen because the lymphatic system has been draining away the excess fluid from the inflamed tissues in your throat, and that fluid contains toxic irritants.

The secret to relieving sore throat pain is to reduce the inflammation in the throat and the inflammation in the swollen lymph nodes.
I've relieved sore throats in as little as twenty minutes using lymphatic drainage massage on the throat. I start by pouring a little olive oil into my palm, and adding a few drops of X-Plague  then placing my fingers just under my jaw at the top of the throat. I use a very gentle, steady downward pressure slowly "milk" the swollen lymph nodes in the throat. Let your fingers slowly drift down the sides of the throat to the base. When you reach the collarbone, also rub in between the ribs in the upper chest. There are lymph nodes in between the ribs. Repeat the process. This is a slow, gentle process and done correctly causes some discomfort but no serious pain. If the pain is to intense, ease up the pressure.
This technique is even more effective when used with garlic oil or a mixture of essential oils (such as thyme, rosemary, eucalyptus, tea tree, etc.) along with olive oil as a massage lotion on the throat. These substances not only increase lymphatic drainage, they also help to fight any infection that might be present.

Another effective mixture that can be applied topically to the throat is a blend of equal parts of extracts of cayenne and lobelia. This mixture stimulates both circulation and lymphatic drainage.

The following is a list of sore throat home remedies that include herbs and essential oils which can be massaged into the throat. The essential oils should be diluted in a fixed oil, such as olive oil or almond oil. Use one part essential oil to 10-20 parts olive oil.

Garlic oil
Eucalyptus essential oil
Lavender essential oil
Lobelia extract
Prickly ash bark tincture
Red root tincture
Rosemary essential oil
Tea tree essential oil
Thyme essential oil

A gargle:
  • Salt water (use 1/2 teaspoon of Real Salt, Celtic salt, Sea salt, or some other high quality salt in a half cup of water)
  • Warm herbal teas such as basil, thyme or your personal favorite. The heated water cleanses the throat area while the herb disinfects.
  • Cayenne extract diluted in water (although it stings, it eases the pain very rapidly)
  • A decoction (the process of boiling an herb in water for 20 min. to extract its essence) made of equal parts goldenseal (or Oregon grape), bayberry rootbark and myrrh gum.
  • Mineral water

These are not the only options, but these are some that I have found very effective.

After gargling, work on the lymph nodes. With children it isn't necessary to make them gargle. Just give them a little garlic oil internally and proceed straight to the massage.

Horehound is a perennial herb from the mint family. It has been found to be incredibly beneficial for respiratory and bronchial illnesses, especially sore throats. Horehound acts as an expectorant which helps it loosen and clear away phlegm, while it also stimulates bronchial secretions to break up congestion.

Marrubiin, one of the compounds in horehound, stimulates bronchial secretions thereby helping to break up congestion. Research also indicates that marrubiin acts as an antibiotic as well as an anti-viral.

In addition to the respiratory system, horehound is also beneficial for the digestive system. In fact, horehound may help with all of the following:

  • Intestinal gas
  • Nausea
  • Parasites
  • Jaundice
  • Sore Throats
  • Cough
  • The common cold
  • Asthma
Homemade Horehound Throat Lozenges


-1 cup dried horehound leaves
-1 cup water
-1 1/2 cup raw, local honey


-stainless steel pot
-cookie sheet
-candy thermometer (optional)


1. In a small stainless steel pot, boil the horehound leaves and water, covered, for 25 minutes.
2. Cool and strain the mixture using a cheesecloth.
3. Reserve the liquid and compost the leaves.
4. Add the honey to the liquid, return to the pot, and bring to a boil once again.
5. Once boiling reduce to a simmer.
6. Cook mixture, stirring constantly, until the syrup reaches 300 degree F (this will take a while). Or, if you’re like me and don’t have a candy thermometer, use the “test” (see below).
7. Grease a cookie sheet with butter or coconut oil and pour in the syrup
9. Allow lozenges to cool on pan.
10. Store in a cool, dry place.
To insure that the syrup has reached the right temperature/consistency, I place just a drop or two of the syrup into a bowl full of ice water. If the syrup turns and stays hard (like a cough drop) then you know it’s ready. If it is still soft and sticky, it needs to keep cooking. these lozenges will have a slightly bitter taste. That is part of what makes them so effective as an expectorant.

Soothing Sore Throat Drink
Squeeze the juice from half to a whole lemon
a slice or two from a ginger root
1 cup of very warm water
1-2 TB of honey
Stir and serve!
Sore Throat Tea:
2-4 slices of lemon
2cm piece of ginger, thinly sliced
A handful of mint sprigs
1-2 cinnamon sticks
Freshly boiled water
Teapot or boil-resistant jug
Honey, to taste

Infuse the lemon, mint, ginger, and cinnamon in boiling water for 5 minutes. Pour into mug and add honey to sweeten and soothe the throat.
Throat Spray

1/4 oz. Ever Clear (from the Liquor Store)
1 1/2 oz. Purified Water
1 tsp. honey
10 drops X-Plague Essential Oil Blend
5 drops therapeutic grade Peppermint essential oil
5 drops therapeutic grade Lemon essential oil
2 drops Stevia

Blend together and store in a 2 oz. dark glass spray bottle. Spray 1-2 squirts on the back of throat for soothing relief.

Or here is a Throat spray from Western Botanicals with: Wild Cherry bark, Licorice root, Slippery Elm bark, Elder berry, Marshmallow root, Echinacea root, Mullein leaf, fennel seed, Horehound herb, Rhubarb root, Usnea lichen, Lobelia herb & seed, Clove bud, Ginger root, Eucalyptus essential oil, Lemon essential oil, Tea Tree essential oil. In a base of Honey and Pure Vegetable Glycerine
Super Kids Throat Spray: proprietary blend of Echinacea purpurea root, Rosehips, Licorice root and Thyme leaf. Other Ingredients: Kosher Coconut and/or Palm kernel glycerine, purified water, Essential Oil of Peppermint and citric acid.

Dr. Christopher’s herbal remedies. Although this remedy was made to help strep throat, it can also relieve a sore throat. If you have garlic, raw honey and cayenne pepper on hand, it is quite simple to make.

Decide how many proportions you will need to prepare.

  • 1 Tablespoon of real honey
  • 1/4 – 1/2 tsp cayenne
  • 3-4 cloves garlic chopped up real fine


  • Mix honey and cayenne together. Then add chopped up garlic.

Instructions for taking remedy

  • Give 1/2 tsp of mixture at a time every 1/2 hour, chew it very well and swallow it. Do not wash it down with anything else. It is important for the ingredients to do their work.

The honey will stick itself to the esophagus, the Cayenne brings blood to the surface because it is a rubefacient, blood will rush to the area. The immune system that comes with the blood will get kicked into action. The garlic stimulates the immune system to be active. Garlic is also good since it is anti bacterial. This can be given during waking hours. Dr. Christopher says sleep is also medication, there is no need to wake up the child.

Dr. Christopher states that this procedure takes around 24 hours  every half hour to help relieve strep throat. It may take longer though.
3 in 1 is a specific Essential Oil Blend for Strep Throat.

Ginger is known to: improve circulation, aid digestion, reduce nausea, help heartburn, reduce aches and pains, increase warmth, decrease congestion. Also known to be anti-inflammatory, relaxing, detoxifying.

Active ingredients in ginger are turpines (yes, similar to turpentine) and oleo-resin compounds called Gingerols. They are antiseptic, lymph-cleansing, circulation-stimulating, and mild constipation-relieving qualities, and potent perspiration inducing action.

It is also a good "carrier herb" which means it helps to bind several herbs together and help the entire formula to work more deeply and effectively. Great to add in to a combination with other herbs.

Here's my tried and true Cold Kicker recipe:

  • 1/4 c. ginger root, freshly grated
  • 1/4 c. onion, freshly chopped
  • 1/4 c. fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1/4 c. fresh sage leaves, chopped
  • 1/4 c. grated horseradish
  • 4 cloves of garlic (you can up it to 6, if you feel adventurous)
  • 2 Tbsp. ground cayenne pepper
  • organic apple cider vinegar to cover
Kids Honey Lemon Sore Throat Suckers Recipe

Honey: we used 1 cup but use as much or as little as you like.
Essential Lemon Oil: 3-4 drops if you are comfortable with that
 or pure organic lemon extract 1 teaspoon
Lollipop sticks
Candy thermometer
nonstick cookie mat or hard candy mold
How many lollipops you get will depend on what size you make them.

Have ready ahead of time your nonstick pad and lollipop sticks so that when the mixture is ready to work with, everything else is too.

Using a medium sized pot, place on the stove, add hone, lemon oil and candy thermometer. You want the honey to reach 300 degrees. Once mixture is to temperature take off the heat and work carefully and quickly to spoon out about a teaspoon size bit of honey onto the mat and then place your lollipop stick into the blob. Let honey cool completely before removing.

Exercise lowers your risk for cancer by reducing elevated insulin levels. This creates a low sugar environment that discourages the growth and spread of cancer cells. Research has also found evidence suggesting exercise can help trigger apoptosis (programmed cell death) in cancer cells. Nothing is better for Diabetes than exercise.

24 hour Flu and Cold Treatment
  • Hydration-At the onset of first symptoms, start drinking a lot of water, up to a gallon and a half the first day
  • Hot Tea and tons of Homemade Bone Broth-as hot liquids have been shown to stimulate the immune system and stop proliferation of the flu virus, continuously sip hot herbal teas, homemade chicken soup and hot water with lemon juice and honey.
  • Lypo-Spheric™ Vitamin C - More and more evidence is showing that vitamin C in the encapsulation form can battle the flu and other viruses better than medication. Lypo-Spheric Vitamin C is the first choice of people who really understand bioavailability and the importance of high-dose vitamin C. Right out of the gate all other forms of vitamin C rapidly crash into an absorption barrier that vastly limits the level of vitamin C that can enter the bloodstream... and the vitamin C that doesn't get absorbed, gets flushed.
  • Oil of Oregano-one drop in water every couple of hours is a powerful antiviral and antibiotic (not for use during pregnancy)
  • Warmed, spiced apple cider. Just keep a pot on the stove. Made with cinnamon stixs, cloves, and ginger - Cinnamon because it is warming and can help when the person is feeling weak especially if sweating does not help them feel better. In this case, cinnamon will warm, strengthen and increase immunity. Cloves because it fights germs, viruses and bacteria, and it encourages the loosening of phlegm from the respiratory system. It also promotes sweating with fevers, colds, and flu, which is very healing. It is often used in remedies for whooping cough.   Ginger -because it is especially good if the person feels cold and is coughing. Similar to cinnamon, ginger strengthens the immunity for weaker people who are sweating without relief of symptoms.
  • Homemade elderberry syrup *-1 Tablespoon every hour for husband, 1/2 Tablespoon every hour for kids. This is very similar to Sambucus, which is sold nationwide.
  • Organic Apple Cider Vinegar with “the mother” One Tablespoon in 8 oz water every three hours. This alkalizes the body and kills any yeast that can be feeding infection.
  • Removal of carbs and sugars from the diet until completely well-at the first symptom. If hungry, eat tons of soup, healthy forms or protein, vegetables and vegetable smoothies.
  • Lot’s of rest-This one is pretty obvious during any illness

*Elderberry syrup is one of life’s great treats.   It tastes incredibly yummy and banishes colds and even flu in-the-most-delight-ful-way.  Its easy to make and lasts for months in the fridge.
½ gallon mason jar
stainless steel pot with lip
pot strainer
1 unglazed wooden chopstick
¾ cup dried elderberries
raw honey
Square inch of raw ginger
5 star anise stars
2 cinnamon sticks

Boil water

Place elderberries in bottom of ½ gallon mason jar.

Fill with boiling water (jar is safe unless cold.  Do this in the sink to be extra cautious.)
Gently place lid on jar. 
Wait a few minutes to let the water absorb into the berries.  Top off jar with more water so that it is dripping down the sides when you put the lid back on.  The objective is to have as little air as possible in the jar.  Screw the lid on tightly. 

Let jar sit for 12 hours on the counter.

The next day, pour the contents out into another pot, over a strainer, squeezing the berries.  Add the ginger, star anise, and cinnamon sticks to the pot. 

Put over the lowest flame possible.  The liquid should steam.  If it starts to bubble, take it off the flame immediately and lower the temperature of the stove.  Let the liquid steam down until it is at half the amount.  This will take 2 or 3 hours.  You can put the unglazed chopstick in the pot at the beginning.  When the dark purple liquid comes up half way on the chopstick, you know it is done.  Take it off the stove and let it cool until just warm. 

Remove ginger, cinnamon, and star anise.  Add raw honey.  The amount varies.  Some people like it very sweet, others less.  I use about 3 Tablespoons. 

Add 1-3 ounces of brandy (1-3 shots.)  If you don’t want to add brandy, it will still last in the fridge for about 6 weeks.  With the brandy it will be good for up to 6 months.  I actually use homemade elderflower brandy  tincture as my preservative, but straight brandy works just as well.

This tastes delicious mixed into orange juice, lemonade, apple cider, champagne, or taken straight by the tablespoonful. It is a strong antiviral and is great as a preventative measure to ward off a cold, as well as a medicine that will send a cold or even the flu far away fast.  I would take it five times a day if I had a bug.
