According to the writings of Dr. Christopher - A body catches flu when it is full of waste matter and toxins through lowered vitality and by body exposure to cold and dampness. This is due to mucus in a weak spot in the body--in this case, the respiratory tract. The contributing factors to this weakness are shallow breathing and a lack of oxygen to that particular area. Are You Really being well informed by the news media? I case you haven't heard yet, Doctors are claiming that they are running low on flu vaccines and are they are expecting to be totally out of them before the flu season ends. You might be wondering how this could happen but let me explain. For the past several weeks it has been very well broadcast/advertised that this is the worst flu season in many years. Everyone has been encouraged to run out and get a flu shot as soon as possible. It has also been announced that the last shipment of flu vaccines has been shipped out so once the current supply is used up there will be no more vaccines until the next flu season. But be of no fear because they have come out with an alternative. Have you ever heard of FluMist?? It's a new alternative to the flu shot and the best part is that it's needle free and costs at least twice as much. Unlike the traditional flu vaccine, which contains inactivated strains of the flu virus, the new FluMist contains three very live strains of the flu virus. However, rest assured that The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have called FluMist "live attenuated influenza vaccine" or LAIV. Basically all that means is that the three strains are diluted. They're as alive as you or me, but they have been watered down. Now I don't know about you but the thought of inhaling three living flu strains isn't a very reassuring idea. And they wonder why everyone isn't running out and inhaling FluMist - so far, anyway. According to the Washington Post, the CDC gave FluMist a nice little boost last week they released a statement reminding the public that FluMist is a befitting alternative to the flu vaccine for those who are both healthy and between the ages of 5 and 49. Then a few days later the CDC director, Dr. Julie Gerberding, just happened to mention, on several news broadcasts, that a large supply of FluMist is still available. Now isn't it sort of a coincidence that we supposedly have this huge shortage of vaccine the same year a major new vaccine is launched? No one I know has said they haven't been able to get a flu shot. And I haven't heard of any doctors turning away patients who have requested a shot. But if the CDC says the supply is low, then I suppose the supply is low, and if they say the supply of FluMist is high, then I'm sure the supply is high. And in case you haven't heard, FluMist costs more than twice as much as the flu shot, and because of this higher cost, many insurance companies won't cover FluMist. That's not the only problem with it. Back in July of 2001 is was rejected by the FDA. The panel voted 8 to 7 that the vaccine is effective in children, and 12 to 2 that it works in adults, however, on the vital safety issue, the panel said NO by a margin of 10 to 4. They probably were able to alter FluMist some in 2 years but I really wonder if this will be a vaccine you can take year after year. There is a long list of other potential problems with FluMist, but one of the key problems is the fact that those who decide to sniff living viruses into their heads instantly become infected by the flu. The immune system then responds by creating more antibodies that, in theory, will fight off any full-strength flu strains that might come along. But in the meantime, there's a possibility that those who received FluMisted could be contagious. Just what we want/need in the middle of a supposed flu epidemic - more contagious people. And of course those promoting FluMist play down the possibility of this product spreading the flu. They proclaim that only a small percentage of users will actually transmit a virus. However, according to a report in Knight-Ridder Newspapers, the CDC cautions those who get a FluMist vaccine to stay away from people with vulnerable immune systems, such as the elderly or those struggling with diseases, for one week, but is one week really long enough? Some hospitals are telling their personnel to allow three full weeks between their FluMist vaccine and contact with hospital patients. Why is there a variance? Probably because FluMist is such a new vaccine that no one really knows the limits yet. Still the CDC is really trying to push FluMist. On top of that, the CDC web site states: "The optimal time to receive influenza vaccine is usually in October or November." So that already puts us at least 11 days past the optimal usage period. Add to that, the people who supposedly really need the flu vaccine, are the most elderly, and those with immune system diseases, and they aren't advised to take FluMist at all. Does this sound right to you? On top of all the points I've brought out, FluMist
increases the risk of asthma attacks in kids under the
age of 5. The typical side effects of FluMist
include a sore throat, coughing, nasal congestion, and a
runny nose. Clinical trials show that FluMist
stops flu-like symptoms in only half of the people who
take it. And one more thing - doctors are adivised
that kids ages 5 through 8 will need TWO doses of
FluMist, at least 6 weeks apart, to be effective.
So the total price for vaccinating each child will be
almost $100 plus the cost of two visits to the
doctor. If you want my advice, don't get the flu vaccine or inhale FluMist. I would just stock up on Olive Leaf, Echinacea, Iron, Garlic, Sambucol, Zinc, and Oregano, and lay off sugar. Sugar, even a single teaspoon, can impair the immune system by 50 % for several hours. And if you do feel like you have something coming on, eat a clove of fresh, raw garlic and that will help kill what ever you are catching with it's antifungal, antibacterial, and antiviral properties. (Chlorophyl or parsley will get rid of most of the annoying smell) Another great way to keep your immune system boosted is drink spiced apple cider. Take some apple juice and simmer it in a pan with a few cinnamon sticks and a few whole cloves. This tastes great and it will keep your immune system built up plus kill most virus' and bacterial infections. Sources: OLIVE LEAF (link) Before the first book of the Bible was penned, man revered the wonders of the olive tree. Throughout history, the oil from its fruit and the brewing of tea from its leaves have been widely used. It was believed that the bitter substance in the olive leaf was responsible for its potent healing power. Over time, it was discovered that the bitter compound found in olive leaf was the phytochemical, oleuropein, and that this substnace may account for the olive tree's disease-resistant properties. Additionally, oleuropein is credited with the olive tree's ability to live for thousands of years. According to the Natural Medicines comprehensive
Database compiled by the Editors of Pharmacist's Letter
and Prescriber's Letter: There is insufficient reliable information available about the safety of olive leaf. Pregnancy and Lactation: Insufficient reliable information available; avoid using." Olive Leaf is routinely used to treat: Colds and flu - Laboratory tests show that olive leaf extract may substantially reduce susceptibility to cold or flu viruses. Testing with olive leaf shows a significant development: it contains components called iridoids that create a structurally complicated molecule. It appears that harmful micro-organisms do not readily develop a resistance to olive leaf extract's complex structure. Olive leaf enhances the immune system function while leaving intact the beneficial bacteria in the intestines. Additionally, the extract has a history of association with fever-lowering and anti-microbial properties. Fatigue-like ailments and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome - Olive leaf extract produces substantial energy increases in most that have used it. Some researchers believe that CFS is tied to a herpes infection, a combination of herpes viruses, or a new mutation of them. Olive leaf extract has a proven record against viruses and other pathogens, thus reducing and even eliminating viral-related fatigue. Candida and fungal problems - Candida overgrowth is tied to various medical conditions. In both the Western world and developing countries, there has been an increase in the number of fungal and microbial infections. As many as 50% of the adult population has yeast overgrowth. Olive leaf produces beneficial results against various yeast problems, including systemic candida. The only discomfort might be some "die-off" symptoms. Olive leaf extract seems to negatively impact the harmful micro-organisms without harming the beneficial ones. The only reported "side effect" is the so-called "die
off" effect which has been likened to the Herxheimer
reaction sometimes encountered with the die off of
yeast. (use L-Ornithine) Toxic substances
released into the body tissues and blood stream from
dying organisms together with cellular debris can
temporarily cause allergic or flu like symptoms such as
headache, fever, fatigue, muscle/joint aches, or
possibly diarrhea. These "die off," or
detoxification, reactions commonly last 4 to 7
days. For severe "die off" symptoms, the user may
wish to temporarily discontinue taking the olive leaf
extract or cut back on daily amount so that the body has
a chance to eliminate the toxic waste accumulating in
the system. Some individuals experience none of
these symptoms. Vaccination's
work by breaking down the immune system
